We had a beautiful morning of paddling when we left Vein Island hoping to make it to Terrace Bay. As we neared the east end of Copper Island we decided to take a break before the 2 mile crossing to the mainland toward Terrace Bay. We set up a tarp as it seemed like rain and soon a thunder storm rolled in.. Good thing we decided to stop and rest up or we'd have been half way into the crossing.. It rained and rained and since we had a MiFi connection we saw how extensive the rain was to be.. We waited for a couple lulls in the storm to set up tents. We had dinner and took to the tents before 8 pm.. It rained and rained and finally when it past we had strong NW winds for much of the night.
Today we had a fantastic tail wind all the way to Terrace Bay and walked into town to pick up our food drop, visit the library to charge batteries and go online. A friendly Canadian lady, Elenore informed us it's a holiday and most things are closed. We were invited over and are charging batteries, using WiFi and all took showers.. Plus her husband Paul works for MNR and gave us all kinds of info on the Slate Islands. Now we have to do our resupply in the morning and hope the weather will still allow us to cross. Strong SE winds are forecast to begin later tomorrow and continue a couple days.. If we don't make it out to the Slate's tomorrow we'll have to skip it. We are somewhat on a schedule.
