My Boat

Kind of odd that someone who had a kayak business for so long would end up with other than an expedition kayak. My kayak is kind of short.  I have the Necky Elaho DS I bought in 2002. I almost kept the Necky Tahsis I had in my store right up to my final season. That would have been a nice boat to have now. The Elaho is a great boat for guiding day tours and is a fun boat but at 15' 10" it's lacking the storage capacity of a more typical length expedition boat like a Tahsis at 18' 2". It's also kind of slow when you're with paddlers of similar abilities in 18' boats. I was focused in paying down debt tied to my building prior to selling it in 2010.

My kayak .. Necky Elaho DS .. deck is black but it's oxidized 10 years

  1. the Picture Rock formation formation you were asking the name of is Petit Portal.
Read through some of your posts, and the NAO log, good trip you are having. Perhaps you didn't need it then, but I had an inverter in the car for my grandson's nebulizer.
The rest of our trip went well, my leg its turning black, about a 12 inch swath, growing daily, extreme pain, can see a doc Thursday. Still walked, swam and kayaked through weekend before returning to work today. Wished I had not missed the diner in GR, owner is an author with a current book out.
signed Sass from Kalamazoo, camped at Grand Maris.

  2. Thanks for the portal name. Good luck with the leg! I only needed to charge my VHF radio on the trip due to it getting turned on accidentally.

  3. Oh a Necky Elaho DS! It’s known for being a low profile touring playboat. One of its advantages is that it is equipped with a drop skeg, which is adjustable to changing wind and wave conditions. Anyway, kayaking is a healthy hobby. It helps to relieve stress and lose weight, and could be a way to help you along with your strength training.

  4. Hi John! My name's Cody and Kayaking around Lake Superior has become a goal of mine. Lately it has become a pretty all consuming goal too! I was wondering if I may ask you a few questions about your trip? Please feel free to email me, or I could email you. Whatever works! My email is cmiller300@yahoo.com

I figure it would be a good idea to get some advice from a guy who's "been there" already! I look forward to hearing from you, and thanks in advance
